Evansville, IN (February 14, 2017) - Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has declared that his city, Evansville, is now back in the convention business. The $61 million Doubletree by Hilton Evansville is officially opening their doors to the public today at 10:00 AM. The five story hotel features guest rooms, suites, accessible guest rooms and suites; all equipped with world class amenities. The hotel also provides needs for the business traveler, meetings & conventions, weddings or you can schedule an event in the near future. .
Mayor Winnecke says along with the new hotel, projects such as the Indiana University multi-institutional medical campus, the Tropicana Casino, and the most recent announcement of a $25 million investment to reconstruct and redevelop the city's tallest building will give people reason to look at this city "through a different lens".
Mayor Winnecke has faith that the new hotel's entrance into the city will "open the flood gates" for the convention and sporting event industry in Evansville, Indiana. The DoubleTree by Hilton Evansville hotel and the other big project developments have given the city and the local officials a new sense of confidence to pursue bigger targets. Winnecke says, "one is a "play-in" game of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship tournament. We feel it's a tall hill to climb, but we have a great facility in the Ford Center. The NCAA has had the Division II Elite 8 there twice, so we know the NCAA likes our facility a great deal. We think with the addition of the Doubletree convention hotel and the planned construction of the new Hyatt Place hotel downtown, we have a real shot at getting this".
"We are excited to be opening and working with the City and Evansville-Vanderburgh Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring conventions and new visitors to our vibrant downtown. Our DoubleTree by Hilton caring culture will provide a level of service second to none for both the community and our guests," said Tracy Wiley, general manager, DoubleTree by Hilton Evansville.
Mayor Winnecke will join the hotel, local, and regional officials Tuesday February 14th at 10 A.M. CST for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
